A comparison of the refractive status of myopic children and their parents.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The spherical component of the refractive status of 289 myopic children, members of 165 families, was compared with that of their parents. The results indicate a much stronger relation‐ship between the refractive status of children and their parents than has previously been reported for a sample of this size. The finding of sex‐related differences in the correlations between parents and children provides evidence in support of the hypothesis that hereditary factors are involved in the development of myopia.
