Renal angiomyolipoma versus renal carcinoma. Is an angiographic differential diagnosis possible?

Abstract

The angiographie criteria for angiomyolipoma as suggested in previous reports have been applied to five cases of angiomyolipoma and 30 cases of renal carcinoma. The only signs not found in the malignant tumors are the whorled appearance found in highly myo-matous tumors and a normal interlobar artery supplying areas of neovascularity. These signs were absent also in all five cases of angiomyolipoma. In most cases of angiomyolipoma it will be impossible to exclude malignancy angiographically.
