Abstract
Nitrogen adsorption on the surface of aluminum powder obtained by gas atomization and melt-spraying and vanadium(V) pentoxide xerogel modification at a concentration of 2 wt % was studied. Powder particle size distribution, particle shape, specific surface area, and other structural properties of samples were investigated. The ultrafine powder structural and adsorption properties were shown to depend on the applied modifier. Modification of spherical dispersed aluminum powder at a concentration of 2 wt % does not significantly alter the original sample’ adsorption characteristics. However, it allowed the use of a refractory compound as a coating on the particles to combat their agglomeration. Specific surface area of ASD sample was 1.18 m2/g, while the specific surface area of the ASD powder modified with vanadium(V) pentoxide xerogel at a concentration of 2 wt % was 1.8 m2/g.
