Abstract
Observations of ionospheric scintillation using Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Signals of Opportunity (SoOP) offer a unique means of detecting scintillation that are otherwise difficult to capture with traditional GNSS measurements. Radio scintillation in the polar region remains challenging to mitigate, often causing cycle slips, loss of lock in GNSS receivers, and degraded performance in radio communication systems. In this paper, we demonstrate this capability with signals from the METEOR-M No. 2 constellation, transmitting continuously at 137.9 MHz received using a software-defined VHF collection system that was deployed in Gakona, Alaska to record signals during the 2024 Fall season.

Radio Science (RDS) publishes original scientific contributions on radio-frequency electromagnetic-propagation and its applications. Contributions covering measurement, modelling, prediction and forecasting techniques pertinent to fields and waves - including antennas, signals and systems, the terrestrial and space environment and radio propagation problems in radio astronomy - are welcome. Contributions may address propagation through, interaction with, and remote sensing of structures, geophysical media, plasmas, and materials, as well as the application of radio frequency electromagnetic techniques to remote sensing of the Earth and other bodies in the solar system.
