Abstract

The concomitant presentation of alopecia areata (AA) and psoriasis (PsO) is relatively uncommon, with a reported global prevalence ranging from 1% to 1.4%. Despite its rarity, this association remains insufficiently investigated. Although the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms are not yet fully elucidated, it has been proposed that both conditions may share a common genetic susceptibility locus, along with a pathogenic pathway involving Th1 and Th17 helper T cells. Each disorder is associated with distinct comorbidities and metabolic complications as well as a considerable impact on quality of life, highlighting the importance of early management. Therapeutic approaches differ significantly, particularly regarding the use of systemic corticosteroids and advanced systemic therapies. This review aims to address the clinical challenges and therapeutic dilemmas addressed in the management of these conditions when they occur simultaneously.
