Abstract
Reaction of K3[Cr(NCS)6]·H2O with aqueous solutions of urea and lanthanum(III) nitrate affords the complex [La(H2O)0.5((NH2)2CO)8][Cr(NCS)6]. Crystallographic data for this complex: a = b = 17.2765(2) Å, c = 14.1728(2) Å, α = β = γ = 90°, V = 4230.3 Å3, Z = 2, space group P4/ncc. The structure shows strong interligand (N–H⋯O) hydrogen bonds and weak (N–H⋯S) hydrogen bonds between ligands and sulfur atoms of the cations. The coordination number of La is 9; its coordination polyhedron is a monocapped square antiprism. The coordination number of the Cr atom is 6, and the coordination polyhedron of this atom is an octahedron. The obtained and characterized complex is the first example of lanthanum complexes containing eight urea molecules and one water molecule in the coordination sphere.
