Abstract
The nonlinear evolution of ion-acoustic wave packets is studied in a local, weakly magnetized Venusian multi-ion plasma model representative of the subsolar ionosheath and adjacent boundary regions. The model consists of superthermal electrons, solar-wind protons, and Venus-origin \(H^{+}\) and \(O^{+}\) ions; the electrons follow a \(\kappa \) distribution and the ions are treated as warm fluids. In the low-frequency electrostatic limit, the direct Lorentz-force contribution of the weak induced magnetic field is neglected. A multiple-scale reductive perturbation analysis yields a nonlinear Schrödinger equation for a small-amplitude, quasi-monochromatic carrier. The three reported ion-acoustic branches are obtained simultaneously as the positive-frequency roots of the full coupled dispersion relation, rather than from three independent single-ion models. For the representative normalized parameter set, the phase and group characteristics depend on the ion thermal parameters and electron superthermality, and the oxygen-dominated branch has the largest calculated modulational-instability growth rate. Bright and dark envelope solutions occur in the focusing and defocusing regimes, respectively. These results identify conditions under which localized electrostatic envelopes may form in a compositionally mixed Venusian plasma. They are theoretical predictions within a homogeneous, collisionless, weak-amplitude fluid model and are not presented as direct detections of envelope solitons at Venus.

Astrophysics and Space Science publishes original contributions and invited reviews covering the entire range of astronomy, astrophysics, astrophysical cosmology, planetary and space science and the astrophysical aspects of astrobiology. This includes both observational and theoretical research, the techniques of astronomical instrumentation and data analysis and astronomical space instrumentation. We particularly welcome papers in the general fields of high-energy astrophysics, astrophysical and astrochemical studies of the interstellar medium including star formation, planetary astrophysics, the formation and evolution of galaxies and the evolution of large scale structure in the Universe. Papers in mathematical physics or in general relativity which do not establish clear astrophysical applications will no longer be considered.
The journal also publishes topically selected special issues in research fields of particular scientific interest. These consist of both invited reviews and original research papers. Conference proceedings will not be considered. All papers published in the journal are subject to thorough and strict peer-reviewing.
Astrophysics and Space Science features short publication times after acceptance and colour printing free of charge.
