Abstract
This study describes a high-performance microstrip patch antenna operating at 10 GHz, which was constructed utilizing a systematic structural optimization technique to optimize impedance matching and radiation characteristics. The antenna is built on a Rogers RT/5880LZ substrate with a relative permittivity of two, with copper utilized for the radiating patch and ground plane. Starting with a standard rectangular patch antenna, subsequent modifications are made via inset feed optimization, photonic crystal (PC) substrate engineering with periodic holes on a substrate, and split ring resonator (SRR) loading on the patch surface. The simulation results show a considerable improvement in return loss, gain, and directivity. The suggested antenna has a minimum return loss of –55 dB, a peak gain of 7.08 dBi, and a directivity of 8.13 dBi at 10 GHz, making it suitable for X-band wireless and radar applications.
