Abstract
A regioselective hydroxyesterification of electron-rich alkenes is achieved through the dual role of mCPBA as oxidant and ring-opening nucleophile precursor. Hydroxyesters are obtained with broad scope and high reaction mass efficiency. Mechanistic studies support acid-promoted epoxide activation, where regioselectivity arises from substrate electronics and developing cationic character.
