Abstract
We presented the extended results of the study of the effect of pulse corona discharge plasma on the air contaminated with a mixture of volatile pyrolysis products of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastic. The main pyrolysis products were determined by GC/MS method: styrene, methyl styrene, toluene, ethylbenzene and isopropyl benzene. Pulsed corona discharge with a duration of 40 ns, an amplitude of 100 kV and a current of 150 A with a pulse repetition rate of 10 Hz was used for the study. During the study, the concentration of components and ozone was measured as a function of specific energy. It was shown that unsaturated compounds are removed from the air with an efficiency that is an order of magnitude better than that of conventional aromatic compounds due to their reaction with ozone. An algorithm was proposed for classifying components based on their significantly different reactivity parameters relative to plasma components. Based on formal kinetics methods, a method was developed for determining the reactivity of components with significantly different parameters. The relative reactivity of aromatic components has been determined: toluene, ethylbenzene, isopropyl-benzene: 1.0 : 1.15 : 1.2 and unsaturated components: styrene, α-methyl-styrene: 1.0 : 1.6. At the same time, the reactivity ratio styrene/toluene exceeds the value of 10. The proposed method can be used to study the purification of air from multicomponent mixtures with different functional composition, which are usually pyrolysis products of various plastics and elastomers.
