Abstract
Embedded part systems with orthogonal anchor bars are required at the connection joints between buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) and concrete beam-columns to transfer the brace capacity to the main structure. The calculation method for the internal force of anchor bars in this type of embedded part is still underdeveloped. Based on the actual beam-column and brace joints in engineering projects, bearing capacity tests were conducted. Through the analysis of test results, the failure mode of the embedded part system with orthogonal anchor bars was revealed. According to the characteristics of embedded parts, the anchor bars were simplified as spring elements. A mechanical analysis model was established, and method for calculating the internal force of anchor bars was proposed. To supplement the untested content in the experiments, a refined finite element model was built, and its accuracy was verified using the test results. The finite element analysis results confirm the accuracy of the proposed internal force calculation formula for anchor bars. The results show that the uniform force method has a significant error used in calculation of anchor bars forces, while the calculation formula of this study have significantly improved accuracy.
