Abstract
Cameroon's Mbam and Djerem National Park (MDNP) is an area comprising both lowland tropical forest and the wooded savannah which offers an excellent quantity of ecological factors shaping extraordinarily diverse mammal species. The study aimed to assess bat diversity and abundance in different land-use types within this national park. Sampling was conducted between October 2021 and Jun 2023 with mist-nets deployed at ground level in each habitat type from 6 pm to 12 midnight. A total of twenty-eight (28) bat species were captured belonging to 06 families and 19 genera in four of the ecological habitats sampled. Epomophorus pusillus (n = 202) was the most abundant species followed by Hipposideros cf. ruber (n = 83). Family Pteropodidae was the most represented in both abundance (n = 248) and species richness (S = 11) in the area. The majority of species captured were in secondary forest (n = 171; 46.21%), followed by the primary forest (n = 120; 32.43). The secondary forest showed a species diversity of SSF = 20, BE = 79 ± 70.6. We observed that habitat type had a strong influence on species distribution with a marked difference in the diversity of bats among the four ecological habitats that hosted bats.
