Abstract
Development of an appropriate control methodology for the operation of a five-phase induction motor (FPIM) in an electric drive system is of great importance. Among the various controller options, direct torque control (DTC) is a well-known technique that enables the achievement of motor torque with minimal fluctuations. Additionally, Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy controllers (TSKFCs) can provide rapid responses when confronted with sudden input variations. Hence, this paper presents a TSKF-DTC-based scheme for an FPIM drive. Furthermore, a five-level aligned multilevel inverter (AMI) is employed to achieve accurate results with reduced fluctuations in the electromagnetic torque. AMI facilitates a smaller number of switches compared to the other configurations. Additionally, the space-vector modulation method is employed to generate the correct pulse sequence for a five-phase/leg inverter, enabling the motor to operate. Two TSKFCs are utilized on the FPIM DTC to ensure precise control of the flux and torque. To provide a clearer visual representation, the responses of the proposed TSKF-based DTC for an FPIM are compared with those of a 3-phase motor. Initially, the proposed technique is simulated and tested using the OPAL-RT platform to derive the results through hardware-in-the-loop testing.
