Abstract
The article is oriented to additive manufacturing, specifically the fused deposition modelling (FDM) 3D printing method. The effect of carbon fibers (CF) on the selected properties (mechanical and thermal) of a polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) specimen prepared by utilizing the fused deposition modelling method, is investigated. First, the effect of 3D printing temperatures (from 220 °C to 265 °C in 5 °C increments) on the quality of fused deposition modelling-printed PETG-CF temperature and bridging tower was studied. Subsequently, the specimens were manufactured using two 3D printing orientations (horizontally and vertically) with a shape and geometry 1B for tensile tests according to the standard ISO 527-2. The nozzle (printing) temperatures were chosen to be 230 °C and 260 °C with a heated bed temperature of 90 °C. Filament with a carbon fiber content of 20 %, two different filaments with a carbon fiber content of 10 %, and a filament PETG were selected for comparison. Based on the quality of 3D printed specimens and tensile test results, the nozzle temperature of 230 °C is better than the nozzle temperature of 260 °C. The printing was unstable at 260 °C for all filaments with carbon fibers, with material accumulating behind the nozzle. Finally, the results of PETG-CF were compared with PETG without carbon fibers.
