Abstract
OBJECTIVES
Identify any patients who underwent resection of bone in the oral and maxillofacial region using non-linear cutting guides in order to demonstrate any increased risk of close or positive margins with their use.
METHODS
Retrospective chart review from July 1, 2020 January 31, 2025
RESULTS
(If applicable) 7 patients were found to have undergone resection of oral and maxillofacial pathologies with the aid of custom non-linear cutting guides. There were no close or positive margins noted among the cohort on final pathologic evaluation.
CONCLUSIONS
The use of non-linear cutting guides for resection of oral and maxillofacial pathologies demonstrates no increased risk of close or positive margins on final pathologic evaluation.
IMPLICATIONS
Non-linear cutting guides may offer particular advantages such as more conservative and aesthetic surgical options when performing mandibular resection and reconstruction for benign pathology.
