Penetrating neck trauma with complete tracheal and hypopharyngeal transaction: A case report.

Abstract

Introduction: This case report describes a rare and severe penetrating neck trauma resulting in complete transection of the trachea and hypopharynx, accompanied by significant vascular injury, caused by a clothesline mechanism.

Case presentation: The patient presented with critical hemodynamic instability, necessitating urgent surgical intervention. Management included rapid airway securement via emergent tracheostomy, ligation of bleeding vessels, and repair of the trachea and hypopharynx.

Conclusion: This case underscores the importance of swift assessment, resuscitation, and coordinated multidisciplinary surgical efforts to achieve a favorable outcome in such complex, life-threatening neck injuries.
