Abstract

This resource provides guidelines and practical tips for conducting empirical research with anti-immigration groups, including the far-right.

This ethical resource was collaboratively developed by Migration Research Group, the University of Sheffield, based on a workshop delivered in Sheffield by researchers from the project “Everyday transnationalism of the far right: an interdisciplinary study of Polish immigrants' participation in far-right groups in Britain” (ESRC, ES/W010151/1) on 11 June 2025. The workshop was led by Dr Anna Jochymek and Dr Rafal Soborski, London Metropolitan University.

We publish a resource (in a PDF format) and two diagrams we created to summarise the key ethical principles and practical tips for studying anti-immigration groups (in a PNG format).

The development of the resource was possible thanks to funding from the University Research Ethics Committee (UREC) at the University of Sheffield.
