A case of cerebrospinal fluid shunt colonization and obstruction by Candida albicans.

Abstract

Summary: A 57‐year‐old female was treated with ventriculoperitoneal (V‐P) shunt placement for hydrocephalus secondary to cerebellar hemorrhage. After three months, the shunt connector was found to be obstructed by massive growth of Candida albicans. This was the first well‐documented case of V‐P shunt colonization and obstruction caused by Candida albicans.
