Abstract
Background
Registered nurses (RNs) spend a significant amount of their inpatient day communicating with multiple individuals to ensure their patients receive the best care possible.
Objective
This article will discuss ways to improve communication between the RNs and the radiology team.
Methods
Improvements were made by standardizing communication, holding interdisciplinary meetings, and integrating electronic medical record systems.
Results
The radiology team and nurses worked together more cohesively. Decreased time to procedure completion was noted, as were fewer duplicate studies and an overall decrease in errors.
Conclusions
Communication improvements between the RNs and the radiology team created a more efficient system and more patient-focused care.
