Abstract

This article examines the role of nurse practitioners (NPs) in disaster management in extreme climate events that result from our warming world. The authors describe potential roles and contributions of NPs in each of the four phases of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Response model. Principal results indicate that NPs are critical in enhancing community resilience and health outcomes in disasters. NPs can lead targeted interventions and policies are needed to support vulnerable groups in the face of climate-related disasters.
