NASEM alcohol committee on problems with self-reports

Abstract

The consensus report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) released last year on moderate alcohol consumption and health did not issue recommendations. But it did find a link between moderate alcohol consumption and health problems. Last week the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published a guest editorial by members of that NASEM panel on why it was so difficult to come up with specific dietary guidelines, despite the fact that there were connections between even moderate alcohol consumption and health harms such as cancer and death.
