Abstract
A solvent-free, mechanochemical synthesis of benzyl-quinoline analogues is reported via a one-pot multicomponent reaction of substituted aldehydes, benzyl-3-oxobutanoate, 5-methylcyclohexane-1,3-dione, and ammonium acetate. Urea serves as an eco-friendly catalyst, enabling high yields (93%–97%) within 30 min under grinding conditions. This method eliminates column chromatography, reduces waste, and avoids toxic solvents or harsh conditions, offering a cost-effective and sustainable approach to quinoline derivatives.

The Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry is interested in publishing research on all aspects of heterocyclic chemistry, especially development and application of efficient synthetic methodologies and strategies for the synthesis of various heterocyclic compounds. In addition, Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry promotes research in other areas that contribute to heterocyclic synthesis/application, such as synthesis design, reaction techniques, flow chemistry and continuous processing, multiphase catalysis, green chemistry, catalyst immobilization and recycling.
