Abstract
During the Korean War, the U.S. Air Force developed the "flying lung" for aeromedical evacuation of polio patients requiring respiratory support. Decades later, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the use of 3D printing for the production of scalable respiratory devices. These examples showcase how military innovations have advanced respiratory care.
