Abstract
Abstract: The number of individuals with significant hearing loss is growing, and subsequently, the utilization of cochlear implants (CIs) is increasing. CIs electrically stimulate the cochlear nerve to help individuals register sounds. The expanding use of CIs highlights the need for nurses who are skilled in caring for this patient population. These surgically placed devices, often implanted during childhood, require lifelong monitoring and care. Nurses play a critical role in preventing serious surgical complications and providing routine care. To ensure safety and effectiveness, nurses must use effective communication techniques. Psychosocial needs must also be taken into consideration because patients with CIs and their families often experience a reduced quality of life. However, these experiences are subjective, and nurses should adopt a holistic, individualized approach that is tailored to the specific needs of these patients and their families.
