Abstract
This study investigates the solubility, phase behavior, and rheological properties of double-tailed surfactant (DTS-12) systems in the presence of hydrotropes, specifically BTAB and TMAB. The results show that the Krafft temperature of DTS-12 decreased significantly from over 70°C to below 30°C with increasing BTAB concentration, highlighting its superior “salting-in” effect compared to TMAB. The rheological analysis revealed that at a surfactant concentration of 50 mM and a BTAB concentration of 60 mM, the zero-shear viscosity reached approximately 103 mPa · s. Moreover, the DTS-12/BTAB formulation demonstrated good thermal resilience, retaining a viscosity exceeding 103 mPa · s even at a temperature of 90°C. These findings demonstrate the potential of DTS-12/BTAB systems for forming thermally stable and highly tunable wormlike micelles, which could be applied in advanced material development.
