Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is highly prevalent but also highly underdiagnosed. Comorbid conditions are related to OSA and can be mitigated by its treatment. These conditions include but are not limited to diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. Delays in diagnosis and treatment of OSA can exacerbate underlying comorbid conditions, leading to them being more difficult to treat. It is important to be aware of your patient’s comorbid conditions that increase their risk of OSA. Ask the simple question, “How is your sleep?” Earlier screening, diagnosis, and treatment of OSA could improve overall population health and lower the health care cost burden.
