Abstract

Background: The pelvic floor is a complex structure composed of organs, muscles, ligaments, and fascia. Pelvic floor dysfunction may occur if any of the components are damaged. Common symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction include pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence, dyspareunia, and chronic pelvic pain.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the effectiveness of different rehabilitation therapies for female patients with pelvic floor dysfunction.

Design: This study retrospectively evaluated and compared the role and significance of different rehabilitation therapies.

Methods: This article reviews the anatomy and functions of the pelvic floor, presents the symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction, and discusses the role and significance of various rehabilitation interventions.

Findings: The results suggest that psychological therapy plays an important role in female patients with pelvic floor dysfunction. Importantly, increased social support and problem identification can help promote medical help-seeking behavior among women with pelvic floor dysfunction.

Conclusion: Rehabilitation therapies are integral to the comprehensive management of pelvic floor dysfunction and can significantly improve women's quality of life.

Clinical relevance: As the one of the most accessible tiers of healthcare, community-based nursing practice can provide women with pelvic floor dysfunction education, referral to treatment, continuous symptom monitoring, and psychosocial support, thereby improving clinical outcomes and enhancing quality of life.
