C. December 2024 Quarterly Financials; Financial Projection; Update on Revenue risk
VP for Finance Cavender-Bares presented a report alongside Director of Finance Rashaun Poore and Executive Director Catherine O'Riordan on the second-quarter financials and status of investments.
ESA's current year-to-date net operating income through December 31, 2024, is $89,615. Approximately $50 K of health insurance expenses are not reflected in the net operating income due to the timing of data entry into the accounting system. Expenses will be reflective and up to date for quarter three. The publication revenue is closer to budget than anticipated. Staff projects a net loss of about $67 k for the fiscal year. Wiley has provided its preliminary final revenue for ESA journals for 2024 with a total of $3,644,828. FY 24–25 total projected publication revenue is $2,707,610.08.
ESA's investment accounts were slightly decreased from the prior quarter by about .30% through December 31, 2024. As of December 31, 2024, the Merrill Lynch account (excess operating funds and unrestricted net assets) balance was $7,806,919, and the balance in the Townley account (award funds primarily) was $2,998,765.
The Governing Board then discussed how potential changes in the budgets of funding agencies and agency priorities would influence ESA. The Board emphasized the need to engage with private philanthropy as well as with state, regional, and local funding agencies.
D. Fundraising Update and Purpose of Endowment Funds
O'Riordan provided an update on ESA fundraising activities to the Governing Board. ESA received a substantial bequest from the estate of Past-President Diana Wall, and Board Member Kelly Ramirez led a working group to discuss options on how the donation should be allocated and will make a recommendation to the Board.
Motion to Adjourn Meeting:
Move to adjourn the Winter 2025 Governing Board meeting
Motion moved by Kelly Ramirez and motion seconded by Emilio Bruna. All aye.
