Point-of-care ultrasound in portal vein thrombosis associated with metastatic dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.

Abstract

Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is an uncommon, potentially life-threatening condition characterised by blood clot formation in the portal vein, leading to obstruction of portal blood flow. It is often associated with abdominal pathologies, particularly liver cirrhosis, as well as malignancies and metastases. Here, we report the case of a young man with a history of fibrosarcomatous dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, who presented with acute abdominal pain and was diagnosed with PVT. Bedside diagnostic tools and advanced imaging were integrated to manage rare complications in the context of malignancy.
