Advocates fear implications of retreat on parity enforcement

Abstract

The imperiled future of Medicaid has largely occupied the attention of those tracking federal policy moves affecting substance use treatment in recent weeks, but advocates also are keeping a close eye on developments with the federal parity law. The Trump administration's indication last month that it will not enforce the provisions of the final rule on parity that took effect last fall has intensified concern that progress in holding insurers accountable for providing equitable substance use coverage will be lost.
