Abstract

This paper describes the development and implementation of a nurse-led simple lesion clinic (NLSLC) for adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD), designed to improve patient care and reduce demand on consultant-led services. Key challenges such as identifying suitable patients and securing consultant consensus were addressed through collaboration, trust-building, and the clinical expertise of clinical nurse specialists. Educational initiatives, including shadowing and mentorship, supported junior staff development. The NLSLC has enhanced patient engagement, streamlined care, and improved service efficiency. As the clinic evolves, the model demonstrates adaptability and relevance for replication in other ACHD centers and long-term care settings, particularly where nurse practitioners are integral to service delivery. Future directions include expanding clinic capacity and fostering broader collaboration with regional and national ACHD services to advance and standardize nurse-led care.
