Abstract
Health system in french guiana: FRANCE IN SOUTH AMERICA. The French healthcare system is in fact the same in many parts of the country. Some are in tropical zones, which is not always understood during medical studies, the second cycle of which currently still takes place in mainland France, including for overseas students. French Guiana is a region of France in South America; its history evokes penal colonies, tropical diseases and more recently trafficking in addictive substances or clandestine gold panning. Furthermore, it is the scene of a rapid transition of indigenous populations towards a consumer society. French Guiana has a whole series of very real obstacles to care: language barrier, restricted technical platforms, understaffing of professionals, geographical distance and complicated accessibility. These difficulties sometimes lead to the need for medical evacuations to better-equipped areas. Making this region attractive for health professionals to reduce inequality in access to care is an objective highlighted during the latest Assises de la pédiatrie et de la santé de l'enfant in 2023 and by the Haut Conseil de la Santé Publique in 2021.
