Abstract

In the ever-growing world of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, keeping these machines operational can be a costly endeavor. Replacing damaged parts can be expensive, but a promising solution is emerging: remanufacturing considering additive manufacturing. This article explores the potential of the fused deposition modeling (FDM) process for remanufacturing damaged UAV parts, offering a sustainable and cost-effective approach to drone maintenance, considering also the current European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulations. For a particular case, the parts are remanufactured with PET CF15 composite filament and tested for a loading case in the Z direction (vertical direction) in order to compare the behavior of the UAV with the original parts and the remanufactured parts in the original assembly.
