Abstract

Abstract: This article describes an innovative service-learning project within an undergraduate community health nursing course. Senior-level baccalaureate (BSN) students integrated child development knowledge and health promotion principles to plan and offer health education and screening at a health fair with homeschool students. Health education focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities was provided for homeschool students ranging from preschool through high school. Nursing students noted multiple educational benefits for themselves from the project, whereas STEM learning integration encouraged participation and reinforced learning for the homeschool students.
