The article addresses the issue of mass measurements using high-precision comparators. Such measurements are conducted at the Central Office of Measures (GUM) in Poland. To enhance the capabilities of the Mass Laboratory at GUM, a new AVK1000 comparator was purchased. However, initial measurements with the new comparator indicated significant discrepancies in the obtained results. Therefore, a comparative study of the new comparator and the previously used comparator was conducted.</div><div>A comparative analysis of the new AVK1000 mass comparator with the previous AT1006 comparator revealed that the new station did not meet the expected repeatability parameters. The AVK1000 showed significantly greater variability, indicating the need for further improvements. The modernisation project included the delivery and installation of the measurement module, achieving high vacuum, and equipping it for measurements in an inert gas atmosphere. Abstract

The global redefinition of the kilogram has increased the importance of precision in the transfer of mass units, posing challenges for National Metrology Institutes, including the Central Office of Measures (GUM) in Poland.
