Abstract
Introductions and objectives
Cardiorespiratory prehabilitation programs are being used to improve the recovery of patients undergoing cardiac surgery, as they reduce postoperative complications, improve functional capacity, and increase their quality of life.
The study is based on describing the profile of frailty and cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) of patients participating in this program, as well as analyzing the results obtained in various functional capacity assessment tests.
Methods
68 participants (40 men and 28 women) diagnosed with a heart disease waiting for cardiac surgery have been selected. Clinical interviews were conducted with each participant, obtaining demographic, health and functional capacity data through the handgrip strength test, timed up and go test, chair stand test and the measurement of maximum inspiratory pressure. In addition, in those subjects over 65 years of age, the FRAIL questionnaire was carried out to assess frailty.
Results/Conclusions
It has been observed that most of the subjects over 65 years of age who participate in this program are in a situation of frailty or pre-frailty, with the worse the results obtained in the tests the greater this condition. In addition, the prevalence of CVRF is higher in men than in women, with men obtaining the best results in these tests.
