Abstract

As the creator of Stage-Gate, I often hear it incorrectly referred to as a linear process like Waterfall, commonly used in software development. This is a misconception. This article outlines the current versions of Stage-Gate, Waterfall, and a similar process, Phase-Review, along with data on the popularity of each. Agile for physical products and lean development are also discussed. To ensure objectivity, artificial intelligence was used to compare Waterfall to Stage-Gate.
