Abstract

Magnetoactive polymers based on 1,1′-binaphthyl-2,2′-diamine with axial chirality were synthesized through cross-coupling polycondensation of the Buchwald–Hartwig reaction and subsequent oxidation with m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid. The polymers were characterized with optical spectroscopy, electron spin resonance, superconducting quantum interference device, and synchrotron X-ray diffraction. Circular dichroism measurements revealed that the polymers exhibited optical activity. Magnetic measurements further showed that the polymers are organic chiral materials with weak antiferromagnetism owing to the presence of solid oxygen with low-dimensional ordering.
