Abstract

The Front Cover shows the electrosynthesis of ammonia from nitrogen gas and a proton source (ethanol) powered by renewable electricity in the process of the lithium-mediated nitrogen reduction reaction. Nitrogen activation and reduction happens on a solid electrolyte interface layer formed on a cathode, which has an inorganic lithium-containing layer and organic molecules derived from electrolytes. This work uncovers a nitridation-coupled reduction mechanism and a nitrogen cycling reduction mechanism. More information can be found in the Research Article by C. Zhou and Q. Zhao (DOI: 10.1002/cphc.202401097).
