Results revealed that parental socioeconomic status, the amount of exposure to English, and infants’ age significantly predicted their word recognition performance. A subsequent sensitivity analysis revealed that the effects of SES and age on word recognition were robust. The results demonstrate that socioeconomic status contributes significantly to variation in infants’ abilities to recognize familiar words.
