Subsequently, studies demonstrated that their action was not limited to glycemic control but could also have positive effects on other specific outcomes, particularly at the cardiovascular level. Indeed, due to their diuretic effect, SGLT2i improve the clinical control of chronic heart failure and reduce the risk of rehospitalization. In addition, other studies reported a protective effect on major cardiovascular events and mortality. More recently, it has been suggested that the prescription of SGLT2i after an acute myocardial infarction may have positive effects due to their possible effect on inflammation, arrhythmias, and ventricular remodeling.
