S.F. study: Local drug seizures linked to higher overdose risk

Abstract

Research based on overdose mortality data in San Francisco suggests a link between law enforcement drug seizures and immediate risk of fatal overdoses in the area of the enforcement activity. The findings could add a dimension to the ongoing drug policy discussion in San Francisco, as the city moves farther from what once was a harm reduction-driven approach toward one seeking to balance public health and individual accountability.
