Abstract

Radiology is experiencing a growing workforce shortage, presenting opportunity for disruption by nonphysician practitioners (NPPs) and artificial intelligence (AI). According to Christensen's Innovator's Dilemma, disruptors typically serve low-demand markets before advancing further. AI enhances NPPs' capabilities, potentially commoditizing radiology. To counter this disruption, radiologists must incorporate AI as a sustaining innovation and redefine their roles beyond simple image interpretation. Proactive adaptation will determine whether radiologists can maintain their value or yield ground to emerging competitors.
