Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the range of optimal tensile forces for the oesophageal tissue and to characterise the biomechanics of the oesophageal tissue. Methods: The subjects of the study were oesophageal fragments of white Pekin ducks with a length of approximately 50 mm. Mechanical uniaxial tensile tests were carried out on fragments of the oesophagus and the effect of long-term tissue loading on the ability to permanently elongate was investigated. All measurements carried out were performed under laboratory conditions imitating the tissue environment. Results: Force-elongation characteristics and stress-strain characteristics were determined from the experimental tests. The mean value of the ultimate tensile force in uniaxial tensile test was 45.32 ± 6.67 N. Mean ultimate tensile strain of 0.41 ± 0.02 and mean ultimate tensile stress of 2.04 ± 0.83 MPa were also determined. Tests carried out on the effect of a constant tensile force showed that the average value of permanent strain observed was 32.17 ± 2.26 %. Conclusions: The conducted research allowed to characterise the biomechanics of white Pekin duck oesophageal tissue. The analyzed range of the elongation force provides satisfactory permanent tissue strain. Within the force range studied, no effect of the loading force value on the strain capacity of the oesophageal tissue was demonstrated.
