Abstract
THE SID CROSS STRAITS CHAPTERS OF BEIJING, Taipei, and Hong Kong had an active 2024, with 34 events in these regions (both online and onsite) occurring between May and December. Weidong Liu, vice president of the SID Cross Straights region, reported on the exciting level of activity among the three chapters. The meetings—led and organized by a dedicated team of volunteers—had a cumulative attendance of approximately 2,822 participants.
The Beijing Chapter has close to 2,000 members and an impressive list of corporate members: two gold, six silver, 15 basic, and three startups. They hosted 10 events during this period with 1,584 cumulative participants.
During their International Conference on Display Technology (ICDT) Huawei New Display Technology Competition campus outreach tour, five universities (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fuzhou University, South China University of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Peking University) participated with more than 700 attendees (Fig. 1).
Other highlights included a SID Display Week Review Workshop (300 participants) and an OLED Technology Route and Industry Development Workshop (150 attendees).
The Taipei Chapter held 11 events during this period with 840 participants. Highlights included the Tin Ka Ping Optoelectronics Week (150 attendees) and the MicroLED on XR Technology and Applications Forum (120 attendees). The latter included topics such as deep integration of microLED and XR and 4D scanning technology and application of large-scale field scanning in immersive devices.
The Young Leaders in Displays and Postgraduate Workshop, which took place at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), featured several topical discussions, including high-performance OLED, oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs), and ferroelectric liquid crystal displays (Fig. 2).
The Hong Kong Chapter held 13 events during the same period with 400 cumulative participants. The largest event was a series of 10 seminars held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Each seminar had a specific topic and designated speaker, with subjects ranging from applications and challenges of photoluminescent quantum rods in high-power LEDs to low-temperature metal-oxide TFT technology and the realization of electronic systems on flexible substrates.
Three workshops addressed current technologies, including ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals and their applications and advanced displays and optoelectronics (Fig. 3).
Many thanks to Weidong Liu, Qun Yan, Mindy Miao, H.S. Kwok, and Yi-Pai Huang for providing the details of these events.
ICDT 2025 will take place March 22–25 at the Xiamen Fliport C&E Center in Fujian, China. This conference will cover a broad spectrum of the latest advancements in display technology and intelligent manufacturing. Alongside the 18 general technical topics, nine special areas will focus on advanced TFT, artificial intelligence (AI) for image and display, virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR) and the Metaverse, mini-/microLED and highly integrated semiconductor information display, light field displays, flexible electronics and displays, quantum dots (QDs) and related displays, vehicle displays, and green intelligent manufacturing technology.
