The affinity of <i>C.sicula</i> to urban environments, including residential areas and urban parks, is reinforced by citizen-science data and is most likely key to its fast spread throughout North America. Keeping isopods as pets and trading them among hobbyists may also play a role especially in establishing core populations in urban centers. The species is likely to expand in the USA in the coming decade.
