Abstract
In this study, the corrosion behavior of B30 copper-nickel alloy under two typical service conditions are comparatively investigated. Note that, the environmental conditions of crevice corrosion result in the transition of the corrosion film from a single-layer structure to a double-layer structure. Under full seawater exposure condition, a single-layer corrosion film is discovered, consisting of NiO/Ni(OH)₂ and Cu2O/Cu2(OH)3Cl. However, under crevice corrosion, a distinct double-layer film structure emerges, with Ni(OH)2 predominating in the inner and a combination of Cu2O/Cu2(OH)3Cl and Ni(OH)2 in the outer, which can be attributed to the varying chloride ion tolerance levels of Cu2O and NiO.

Scripta Materialia is a LETTERS journal of Acta Materialia, providing a forum for the rapid publication of short communications on the relationship between the structure and the properties of inorganic materials. The emphasis is on originality rather than incremental research. Short reports on the development of materials with novel or substantially improved properties are also welcomed. Emphasis is on either the functional or mechanical behavior of metals, ceramics and semiconductors at all length scales.
