Abstract

Introduction

Conservative treatments are frequently sought by individuals with knee conditions; however, these treatments do not slow disease progression and may subject individuals to complications or financial burden. Research on other conditions suggests stem cells may improve function and quality of life. The aim of this study was to understand the impact of stem cell treatment on quality of life in recipients with knee conditions.

Methods

A Qualtrics survey with Likert scale and WHOQOL-BREF questions was used for data collection. Data were collected via flyers and were exported to Excel for analysis.

Results

Strong, positive correlations were found between stem cell treatment and mental health, physical health, and overall quality of life. The single-factor ANOVA value showed increased significance in value (p = 0.07). Two-tailed t-test results indicated a significant change in respondents’ ability to participate in bathroom tasks including dressing, brushing teeth, toileting, applying makeup, and bathing/showering.

Discussion

The results are consistent with previous research studies and facilitation of increased performance in occupations emphasizes the role of occupational therapists in treating clients who pursue alternative treatments.
