Abstract
Background: Seabirds are highly adapted to their marine environment and poorly tolerant of captivity. As rapid debilitation occurs when birds are contaminated with oil, the immediate initialisation of a high standard of care is essential to enhance outcomes when presented with contaminated patients. This article draws on the existing evidence base, along with personal experience, to provide guidance for clinicians working in veterinary practices on how to provide appropriate care.
Aim of the article: The aim of this article is to provide the practitioner with a guide to the initial assessment, management and stabilisation of oiled seabirds.
