Abstract
Results are presented from modeling the magneto-optical properties of nanoscale layered structures based on a permalloy–tantalum alloy on a silicon substrate. Spectral dependences are calculated using the transverse geometry of the magneto-optical Kerr effect (TKE) in the range of 0.5–4.0 eV. Strong nonlinear behavior of the spectral dependences is established, depending on the thickness of the permalloy–tantalum layer. It is shown that the Kerr effect can be considerably enhanced with sufficiently thick layers of tantalum.
